Educational Goals and Achievements

The Amernet Quartet and the Community

The Amernet String Quartet believes that music has a far-reaching ability to benefit Society. The Amernet String Quartet is committed to promoting classical and contemporary chamber music among audiences of all ages. The group has developed programs for school visits, presents children’s concerts, master classes and informal sessions of conversations with music for groups of all ages.

The group has conducted special courses for the Institute of Learning in Retirement at the University of Cincinnati.

In recognition of the importance and the impact of its educational endeavors in Cincinnati, the Amernet String Quartet has been awarded numerous grants by organizations such as the Corbett Foundation, the Fine Arts Fund, the Greater Cincinnati Foundation, the City of Cincinnati, the LaSalle Foundation and the Cincinnati Chamber Music Society.

Amernet String Quartet members maintain an ongoing enthusiasm for educational and outreach activities, which help to promote awareness and appreciation of chamber music, and put them in close contact with their audiences.

While on tour performing concerts, Amernet members enjoy doing outreach activities. They have presented children’s concerts, master classes, school visits and informal conversations about music in cities such as Buffalo, Memphis, Erie, Logan, Los Angeles, New Orleans and many others.

In 1995-1996, the group participated in 1995 in a Rural Residency sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts and Chamber Music America, in the Pennsylvania communities of Johnstown, Indiana and Somerset.

From 1996 to 2000 the Amernet String Quartet was Ensemble in Residence at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. From 2000 to 2004 the Amernet Quartet was in Residence at Northern Kentucky University, where it headed the newly established Patricia Corbett String Program.

The group founded The Norse Festival, a summer chamber music workshop at Northern Kentucky University.

Since 2004 the Amernet String Quartet has been in Residence at Florida International University where the members of the group teach the individual instruments as well as chamber music. The group has founded the Allegro Chamber Music Camp, providing an opportunity for young musicians to work intensively in chamber groups, under their guidance. They will be hosting the second season of Allegro in the summer of 2006.

We believe it is of utmost importance as musicians to share our love and enjoyment of music with others. Through the years we have done this and found out that kids love classical music, but many times they do not have the opportunity to be exposed to it. When on tour, we always like to visit schools before or after our concerts. This coming fall we are planning a lot of outreach activities in Florida. We want to visit all kinds of schools and play for as many young people as we can.
